You’ve heard it before, but it’s true: Inspiration for entertaining and party décor can really come from anywhere! Blogs are obviously one of my favorite resources and Martha and BHG are never-fail reserves. But I’ve recently discovered some unique and never-before-seen ideas in some quite unusual places. Please join me as I kick off my Surprising Sources for {Free} Party Inspiration series.

Ideas & Inspiration from the Krylon Website

You go through cans of spray paint like octamom goes through diapers. The staff at Lowes knows you by name (cough *my grandma* cough). But have you ever really thought of going to a spray paint manufacturer’s website? I hadn’t but one day when trying to find glass-friendly spray paint I ended up spending hours on the Krylon website!

Pottery Barn Entertaining Class

Looking for inspiration for your spring-time soirees? Then get your party planning tush to Pottery Barn this Sunday, March 15 for a complimentary entertaining class! I have attended a few pb classes in the past and have always come out super inspired and excited. The classes are usually on Sunday mornings before the store opens to the public. There has always been a good crowd when I’ve been (usually women) and it is really fun to spend the morning chatting and collaborating on design with other décor-loving friends!

Our local store has a great instructor who makes the class very participatory and is very good at explaining how to recreate the displays you see. One of my favorite parts of the class is that you don’t feel any pressure to buy anything. (PB is often a bit out of my price range) But if something catches your eye they offer 10% off all merchandise used in the class to those who attend. The main goal of the classes seems to be to get people in the store during a non-peak hour and explain more about all the services that PB offers.

MGD 64

Is it just me or has this week dragged on forever?! TGIF! In honor of the end of the work week I wanted to share my review of the new MGD 64. I had seen the commercials (“Can I get a vodka and cranberry 64?”) over and over but had yet to find a bar that actually served it. Last Tuesday after our kickball game I had a stroke of luck! The MGD 64 crew was out promoting their product and passing out samples.

Now I’m a Miller Light girl in the first place, so I’m kind of prejudice, but I actually really enjoyed it! It was just as good as Michelob Ultra, one of my other favorite low-carb beers of choice. I give it four stars!

So tonight, if you’re as exhausted as I am go to the MGD 64 website and find out where you can buy a case. It’s worth trying out!

Have a great weekend everyone! I’ve got some GREAT parties going up next week  from some amazing guest bloggers so be sure to come back soon!

Pseudo Souffles

Since the first time I saw the chick-flick Because I Said So (which I have now seen at least twenty times!) I have been wanting to attempt to make the chocolate souffles that not-so-subtly serve as a metaphor for Milly’s relationships in the movie. After a quick google search I learned that making souffles is nothing less than an art form and requires a bit more talent in baking than I possess. I’ve been biding my time until I can become a better cook, or find an easy alternative.

Luckily enough, in February I found my solution to the souffle! In February, my mom and her friends hosted a Valentines Dinner for Fourteen. Her friend, Leslie, was in charge of the desserts and used this quick and easy recipe to whip up fourteen souffle-like creations on the spot! There are only a few ingredients making these tiny treats are very inexpensive, yet impressive. I tried my hand at whipping them up and they turned out so well I decided I MUST share the recipe with you!

The Perfect Pound Cake

A pound of butter, a pound of sugar, a pound of flour, heck, I could put on five pounds just thinking about baking a pound cake! One of my very favorite dessert recipes is the “Perfect Pound Cake” recipe from Southern Living. And today, in honor of “National Pound Cake Day,” wanted to share it with you, my readers.

Read Across America

Today I wanted to take a minute to write about a cause that is close to my heart. And to get you to actually read it I am posting pictures from a recruitment party that I planned when I was rush chair in college! It is super cute and has a Dr. Seuss/Literacy theme so enjoy!
